Ahoy!!! My name is Mrs. Gilliam and I will be your third grade teacher! I am so excited to be your teacher this school year! Let me introduce myself...... I graduated from ECU with my BS in Applied Sociology and a concentration in Philosophy and Law and Society with aspirations to go to law school. I took a year off and worked as a Pre-K teacher and while doing that I attended ECU to get my Master's in Substance Abuse Counseling. After completion of that, I figured out my true calling was in teaching and I then went back to school to receive my B.A. in Elementary Education from NCCU while working as a teacher's assistant in Chapel Hill. This was the best decision as my passion is helping children reach their full potential and show growth. This will be my fourth year teaching third grade.
I talk ALOT about my family. You will hear me mention Mr. Gilliam, my three year old daughter, Ariyah, and my 7 month old Ava. They are my world! I live in Wake Forest with my husband, daughters, and my three pound yorkie, CoCo Chanel. In my free time I love spending time with my family, going to the movies, and trying new restaurants. (Mr. Gilliam and I LOVE FOOD!)
Third grade is an awesome grade to teach and you are going to love being in third grade. In K-2, you learned how to read, now you will read to learn. You will learn how to become a more independent student, build your reading stamina, and work on different reading modules each quarter. In addition to that, you will participate in some awesome Science and Social Studies units! I can't wait to get to know each one of you and see you grow! Happy new school year!!
